Mechanical Engineer – Warehouse Operations


Location: Cardiff, Wales

Role Overview


We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer to support the maintenance and optimisation of mechanical systems within our warehouse facility in Cardiff. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and service warehouse machinery and mechanical systems (e.g., conveyor systems, sorting equipment, lifting equipment)
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to reduce equipment downtime
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement effective solutions
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to improve efficiency
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and projects
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required

Skills & Experience Required


Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and fault-finding techniques
  • Experience working in a warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills


Desirable:

  • Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar)
  • Experience with automation systems and conveyors
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems or multi-skilled engineering
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Welding or fabrication skills

Working Hours

  • Typically 40 hours per week
  • Shift work may be required, including evenings, weekends, or on-call duties
